Abstract: This study aims to provide a reference to thestudy of lower extremity injury prevention during afrontal impact. First, the boundary conditions of a carmodel are established. Then, through intrusions andaccelerations characters of inner parts to simulate thewhole process of a full-scale car accident, the anklejoint injury is determined by the injury index likeligaments kinetics around the joints under emergencybraking. Results demonstrate that in the modelwithout active muscle function, the bending angle ofthe right ankle is increased by 11% compared withthat of the left ankle. In the model with active musclefunction, the bending angle of the right ankle isincreased by 16% compared with that of the leftankle. This study investigates differences in anklekinetic characteristics due to the functionality oflower extremity active muscle under 40% offsetfrontal impact.
