Abstract:
This paper presents two observers, whichcombine a piezoelectric accelerometer with apositional sensor that commonly exists in a servosystem. The piezoelectric accelerometers have widemeasurement bandwidth but cannot measure anacceleration’s dc and quasi-dc components. Theproposed observers can estimate dc and quasi-dccomponents of an acceleration, avoiding thepiezoelectric accelerometers’ drawback. In contrast tocommonly used capacitive accelerometers, theproposed observers can produce wide dynamicbandwidth owing to the use of a piezoelectricaccelerometer. Compared with existing accelerationobservers, the proposed observers do not require aplant’s model and are thus completely insensitive tomodel uncertainties. Moreover, the proposedobservers do not directly differentiate the positionalsignal twice with respect to time and are thus moreimmune to positional sensor noise. The proposedobservers are experimentally applied to a linearmotion stage to investigate applicability andfeasibility of the proposed schemes.
