Abstract:
Gravity-induced contact between the drill string and the wellbore during directional drilling of long horizontal wells results in significant weight-on-bit (WOB) loss. To address this issue, this paper builds upon previous research and proposes an anti-sticking controller for directional wells. The working principle of the controller is introduced, and experimental studies are conducted to determine the effect of driving speed on the tool state under different flow rates. A coupled dynamic model of the drill string system under horizontal directional drilling conditions is established to analyze its dynamic characteristics under different parameter conditions. The results indicate that increasing the rotary table speed and pressure drop enhances the angular velocities of the drill bit, bottom hole assembly (BHA), controller, and drill pipe, reaching stability at 30 s. The phase trajectories of the drill bit, BHA, and controller do not form closed limit cycles, and their variations exhibit similar trends. Meanwhile, the drill pipe stabilizes more quickly. In contrast, increasing WOB reduces the angular velocities of the drill bit and other components, prolongs the drill pipe’s stabilization time, and prevents stick-slip vibration. Additionally, the study evaluates the effects of different installation positions of the anti-stick-slip controller and finds that placing it in front of the drill collar achieves optimal performance. These findings provide valuable guidance for the installation and application of similar tools.
